Exterior Color Choices

Our white stucco house gives us a great opportunity for color in our new addition. When we moved in, there was dark forest green paint on the window trim and a dark green roof. With new white windows and the green roof being torn off, we have a blank canvas to work with. The only color is the chimney. The brick is a mix of light autumn colors that don't overpower. We have been toying with many different color pallets. I want to be bold with color since so much of our year is full of white snow and grey skies. But I also don't want to create an eye soar that I will regret and need to repaint. I picked up a variety of color pallet samples from our local big box hardware store. (These are all Pittsburgh Paints and Stains brand.) The overgrown vine climbing the chimney came in handy to compare the colors against the brick. Two favorites popped out after staring at them for awhile.

My favorites are the second from the right (Pizza Pie and Curry Sauce)...

and also second from the right (Playing Hooky and Burning Bush)

Here is choice #1 against the house (photobombed by my running child.) My thought is the red for the upstairs siding and the yellow for the door. You can sort of see the current front door behind the bush; its a brighter sunflower yellow.

And choice #2. The idea would be the green for the siding and the red for the front door.

Pittsburgh has a color visualizer. It isn't great, but it gives and idea of what these colors might look like on our house. Ignore the cartoony quality.

Here is Pizza Pie and Curry Sauce on a few house.

And here is Playing Hooky.

I'm leaning mostly to the Pizza Pie and Curry Sauce option since it coordinates better with the bricks. The green might clash too much with the brick and surrounding plants. Let me know your thoughts.

We have painters coming next week to give us quotes. The siding will be vertical board and batten. It comes primed but will need to be painted after installation. So we have some time to make this decision.

The grass is greener now and there are flowers blooming. I may have a different opinion once I look again at the color with a more colorful yard.
