Preparation...3 days to lift off!

With a start date of May 14, the preparations are in full swing. We had to have the upstairs cleared out by this past Monday morning because there were some last minute measurements needed and asbestos abatement.

I realized that the kids really needed to say goodbye to the upstairs. That space is full of memories for them and they are going to miss it. I keep highlighting the positive; they will make new memories in the new upstairs. So Friday night, we did our final special movie night. I popped popcorn and we watched "Annie." La split her time between watching the movie and playing in her favorite corner. On Saturday, we cleared the toys out of that corner and she cried a little. She was worried that her favorite frog light will be ruined in the construction. I put that light in my dresser so we wouldn't lose it and I told her we would find a new place to put it. She doesn't really know what to expect from all of this and I can imagine that uncertainty is scary for her.

Her favorite little corner.

You can see her tears in this picture.  After turning the light off, we put it in my dresser for safe storage.

My mom came to town just in time! She kept the kids busy while Jeff and I hauled furniture to the garage and basement. During downtime, she has been sorting, organizing, washing dishes and doing the laundry. She really saved us this week! On top of the preparations this week, Le had a choir concert, baseball practice, his first baseball game, a violin lesson, swimming lessons and a field trip to the art museum. La had swimming lessons and preschool graduation. It was a much busier week than normal even without the prep work.

The beginning of the packing.

Late night packing and organizing. It was amazing how much stuff we had crammed into that little space. Le was falling asleep lounging on the futon.

We packed toys, movies, books, and craft supplies into plastic bins. Everything was moved to the basement. The TV was moved to our bedroom so we can still have our special movie nights during the summer. Anything touching the house has been moved to allow for scaffolding. The large bookcase and shelf has been moved to the garage.

The contractor came and made some cuts in the walls to make some final measurements.

It looked like a cartoon mouse moved in.

Access panels were removed to measure from the exterior walls.

It is starting to look like we are ready to start this project. We still need to clear out most of the living room, but we still have 3 days...
